Is there anything more Maine than a lobster roll in the summertime?

Sure, we can argue about whether it should have mayo or butter, how much lobster should be stuffed into the roll, or how much is too much to pay for one. But when you find a really good lobster roll, there's not much that beats it.

So, we decided to ask the experts: Mainers.

We asked our Facebook followers to tell us their favorite place to grab a lobster roll, and let's just say people had opinions. A LOT of opinions.

Where Do Mainers Go for the Best Lobster Rolls?

The answers came from all over the state, from famous coastal lobster shacks to many spots right here in Central Maine. We saw plenty of familiar names pop up again and again, including Red Barn in Augusta, Rolls on the River in Randolph, and College Carry-Out in Augusta.

Of course, some people insisted the best lobster roll isn't at a restaurant at all. Several said the only way to do it is to buy the lobster yourself, pick the meat, and make one at home. Honestly, that's about as Maine of an answer as you can get.

But among the people who actually gave us a place to visit, a handful of restaurants and lobster shacks clearly stood out from the rest.

So, if you're craving a lobster roll and looking for somewhere to try this summer, these are 15 of the places Mainers recommended the most.
