Portland, Maine, Just Opened a Brand-New Outdoor Attraction, and the Best Part Is It’s Completely Free
Finding something fun to do in Portland without spending money isn't always easy, but a brand-new attraction just opened downtown, and the best part is that it's completely free.
The Portland Museum of Art officially opened a new outdoor space called PMA | AMP on October 2, and it's not your typical museum experience.
A Museum Experience Without the Walls
Located in Portland's Arts District, this 4,200-square-foot outdoor pavilion is designed to bring art, entertainment, and the community together.
Instead of walking through traditional museum galleries, visitors can enjoy rotating art installations, performances, outdoor movie screenings, and creative workshops.
There's even a mural created by Portland artist Jenna Pirello.
What surprised me most is that this isn't just a place to look at art. There's public seating and free Wi-Fi, meaning you could literally grab a coffee, bring your laptop, and spend some time enjoying downtown Portland.
There's a Bigger Reason Behind It
Here's something else I found interesting.
The pavilion is actually temporary!
It's part of the Portland Museum of Art's larger expansion plans, and the structure was designed to eventually be taken apart and reused somewhere else.
It's also built largely using Maine-sourced timber and regional materials.
I think it's pretty cool that instead of leaving the space empty while planning a major expansion, they're giving people something to enjoy right now.
And considering it's free, why not check it out?
