Rising from the Ashes: How Gorham, Maine is Saving Orchard Ridge Farm
Fires devastate. They change lives and have no pity on the destruction they cause. This took place last month, when a fire destroyed a beautiful business.
The Orchard Ridge Farm, taking with it not only the farm but what was also the owner’s family home.
Fortunately, everyone inside escaped safely. However four firefighters were treated with minor injuries. The farm, is a special part of the Gorham community, and now they are faced with the monumental task of rebuilding.
What makes Maine so special is our communities, our people. Those of us who do not just walk by and do nothing when a business burns.
The Gorham community has completely rallied around this business to support the family and their orchard, according to the WMTW.
As per the article, one creative way a local person helped was Ashley Flowers Yoga, holding a 45 minute outdoor yoga class this weekend in the farm’s orchard fields. The fees went directly to the Orchard Ridge Farm, to support their rebuild.

Another local business is stepping up, Sidecar Wine, Whiskey & Tapas Bar held a fundraising event this weekend with live music and no cover charge. Donations were accepted and Sidecar contributed to a portion of food sales to the farm, according to the article.
The efforts made by the power of neighbors, friends, and family in a time of need is magical. For those who want to help this beautiful Maine business continue it’s successful way of life, this is an opportunity to do so.
What inspires me most about their mission is that according to a Facebook post, they state that,
"one of our primary goals was to create a space where everyone feels welcomed. You don't have to buy a thing. We welcome you to come & walk the orchard, visit the animals, meet up with friends, gather with loved ones, whatever you need. While it's an unusual business concept, we feel that it fosters connection. That connection is priceless. We don't spend money on marketing, we don't sponsor ads. We have chosen to grow organically through you all. It's a slow & steady process, but the foundation we all built is a strong one."
Visit their Facebook page and reach out, lend your hand, your wallet, or just your warm and encouraging words of support.
