NASA Confirms Two Meteorites Fell to Earth in Maine in February
I'm a space geek. I've always been fascinated by the galaxy we live in. I'm such a space geek that I'll be going to Merrill Auditorium in Portland to see astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and am giddy with excitement.
There's something that happened back in February that put my space geekiness into high gear.
Meteorites Fell to Earth in Maine
A meteorite is a space rock that falls to the surface of a planet. They're much smaller than asteroids and meteors could be devastating and possibly could destroy all life on Earth if they collide with it.
Remember that 3% chance back in February that we'd be hit by a meteor in the 2032s back in February? Luckily, after more observation by scientists, that probability turned out to be close to 0%.

When the two meteorites, weighing around two pounds each, entered the atmosphere, the sky lit up in a green glow seen by many people in that area. WMTW 8 shared footage taken by home security cameras of the glowing green sky.
NASA Confirms Meteorites
It took some time, but NASA confirmed in early March that two meteorites did land in Maine.
When events like this happen, people go on the hunt for these space rocks, but experts don't believe they will be easy to find as most of the area where they appear to have landed is nearly all forest.
