Cumberland Maine Police Department Shares Some Amazing News
So we had our first snowstorm of the season, which dumped a wide range of snowfall over Maine. It wasn't too big a deal for most people who were prepared and were ready to tackle a drive in the snow.
The Cumberland, Maine Police Department posted some surprising data on their Facebook page early Wednesday morning, which had a very good sense of humor:
Cumberland, Maine Police Department Post
Ahem. If we could direct your attention to the data…
As you can clearly see from our highly technical and extremely detailed chart, we experienced a remarkable number of vehicle-related calls during yesterday’s snowfall.
Exactly zero.
This is so unusual that we’ve been trying to determine what cosmic forces aligned to make this possible. Our working theories include:
• Was it because local meteorologist Keith Carson stepped away from his TV job for the third time, taking his smedium suits and dramatic storm forecasts with him, calming the snow gods?
• Was everyone too busy arguing online about whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie (it is) to leave their driveways?
• Did the collective power of Mariah Carey defrosting for the season stabilize the road conditions?
• Or did Santa do a pre-flight test run and decide to put down a little magic traction dust?
Whatever the cause…we’re not questioning it.
In all seriousness, thank you. Whether you stayed home, took it slow, or drove like a seasoned Mainer who remembers that snow is, in fact, slippery — YOU made a real difference.
Zero crashes. Zero injuries. Zero slide-offs. Zero property damage. Zero tow trucks digging someone out of a ditch shaped suspiciously like their own driveway. Zero mayhem.
And of course, a HUGE shoutout to our Public Works and MaineDOT SnowFighters, who were out early, stayed late, and kept the roads in outstanding shape from start to finish.
Let’s see if we can keep this streak alive. (No pressure.)
Stay safe, Cumberland.

Gotta love it when the Cumberland Police Department takes to Facebook with a report like this. I always say the first snowstorm of the year is the worst, because people forget how to drive in the snow. Drivers in Cumberland passed with flying colors and zero accidents. Bravo!
