You Won’t Believe What the Cheapest Apartment in Portland, Maine, is Going for
The City of Portland gets a bad rap from lots of people who don't live in Portland. There are some legit things to complain about in Maine's largest city, mainly that it's expensive to live there.
We all know that the real estate market shot up like a rocket crashing through the roof, with lots of people moving to Maine and making even a small studio apartment very costly.
I searched on apartments.com to find the cheapest apartment in the greater Portland area. Remember that not everyone lists their vacancies on this website, so there could be cheaper apartments for rent in the city.
The cheapest I found in Portland was about the size of a hotel room at 370 square feet. It's a studio apartment with one bathroom. It comes with internet access, a Wi-Fi router, a washer and dryer, air conditioning, a dishwasher, and other standard kitchen appliances.
This studio apartment in the Bayside area of Portland is for lease for $1500 per month. That's just shy of my monthly mortgage payment for a three-bedroom house in the suburbs of Portland.
You know the old saying, "It's a nice place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there"? I think it's more like you can't afford to live here.
This is the exact reason I moved out of Portland. I'd much rather take a 20-minute drive into the city from my house on my land with a backyard where I often see deer and have plenty of space for two people.
What do you think about that price?
