Cormier’s Dog House in Windham, Maine, Now Open and Serving Chicago Hot Dogs
Are you a fan of Chicago hot dogs? If so, you're going to want to head to Windham, Maine, to try out a new hot dog house that's now open and knows how to make a Chicago hot dog.
Cormier's Dog House is at the Windham Shopping Center next to the Windham Post Office, and is the brainchild of Ryan Cormier of Waterboro.
The grand opening is Friday, May 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., and they will also be open on Saturday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Cormier's will settle into its regular schedule of 11am-8pm. Monday through Saturday, and 12-6pm Sunday.
Since I grew up in Maine and have lived here all my life, my hot dog of choice is the red, natural casing hot dogs that Jordan's used to make right in Portland. They're long gone, but Kaymen's is pretty decent. So I was curious just how a Chicago is made.
According to The Taste of Chicago, a Chicago Dog comes on a steamed poppy seed bun that holds an all-beef frankfurter. It's topped with yellow mustard, bright green relish, freshly chopped onions, red tomato wedges, a kosher-style pickle spear, a couple of spicy sport peppers (a kind of hot chili pepper), and a dash of celery salt. It sounds pretty good to me, but hold the sport peppers.
You can check out the menu before you go on their Facebook page. I've got to say, it looks pretty amazing.
