A huge humpback whale put on a show in Kittery over the 4th of July weekend, rivaling any fireworks.

According to Seacoastonline, the town harbormaster, John Brosnihan, couldn't believe his eyes when he caught a massive humpback whale on video in the shallow waters of Pepperrell Cove in Kittery.

John was funny on Facebook, saying,

This freaked me out, probably not as bad as those guys but wow. I told them I had some TP on my boat if they needed it!

The whale was so close to land that officials asked fishermen to pull up their lines, and also told boats to be in neutral and have life jackets ready. Also, everyone was told not to chase the whale to get good photos and videos. It's illegal to 'harass' any marine mammal, and chasing it for a photo would definitely count as harassment.

Did the men on the boat need toilet paper after having the humpback whale feed right next to their boat in Kittery, Maine?

No, they did not. But they did catch the dramatic feeding on the plentiful pogies (menhaden).

The humpback swam and fed in Pepperrell Cove from late Tuesday, July 2, through the busy 4th of July. As quickly as he appeared, he was gone by Friday with no sightings.

Here's some advice if you come across a humpback whale in shallow waters off the coast of Maine.

John shared some great advice to Seacoastonline when it comes to the capturing content for the social media frenzy of getting 'likes'.

Give it a wide berth. Let it do what it does. It’s just there to eat. It's their home. It’s not ours. If you spook this whale, it could get itself into a bad situation.

If you are lucky enough to witness something as amazing as a humpback whale, enjoy the show and let them be.
