Maine Couples Are More Likely to Cheat Near Valentine’s Day

Valentine's Day is coming up, and of all the times of the year you would expect couples in Maine to cheat on their partners, this wouldn't be it.

This is a tough pill to swallow, but the information Earthweb gathered data from Google Keyword Planner using terms related to cheating and searching for affair websites. Wait, what? There are affair websites?

They analyzed nationwide monthly Google keyword volume scaled against the population to determine which states are most likely to cheat, as well as the states most paranoid about an unfaithful partner.

The study shows that across the year, on average, Maine cheaters search online 542 times a month per 100,000 residents for affair partners. But in January, the number jumps up 6.4% to 576 times per 100,000 residents. Nationwide that increase is 4.4% or 2% less than Maine.

So what gives? Why the cheating in January and leading up to Valentine's Day? The research doesn't have that answer, but I think I can take a guess. It's the start of a new year and maybe someone thinks they should play the field.

Although believing someone you care about can treat you poorly and be unfaithful, trusting your instincts is important. If something seems off, the best thing to do is to investigate and gather evidence before you throw any accusations around.

Okay, so this isn't the best news to hear going into Valentine's Day. Let's hope you aren't with someone who is in that 6.4%.
