New Hampshire Drive-In Restaurants

I know it's confusing to start an article focused on two drive-in restaurants in Maine by with an immediate section that says "New Hampshire Drive-In Restaurants" -- but follow me on this real quick.

I'm a New England kid through and through and other than a couple quick years I lived in Oklahoma, I've lived in New England my entire life -- mostly in New Hampshire. And, growing up there, I was never really exposed to drive-in dining.

Drive Thru? Sure, we've all experienced those throughout life. But actual drive-in restaurants complete with car bays that you park at, order from, and get served in? Not once in my life.

In fact, I'm pretty sure the closest I ever came to a drive-in restaurant experience were the various walk-up food stands along the Hampton/Seabrook/Salisbury beach areas, like Ceal's Clam Stand, Tripoli Pizza, Cristy's Pizza, etc. But those are walk-up, not legitimate drive-in.

In fact, it wasn't until I moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and had a Sonic right down the street from me that I ever experienced the glory of parking, ordering, having food delivered, and chowing down right then and there.

But then I moved back to New England, moved to Maine, and became blessed with having multiple drive-in restaurants within driving distance, including two in the very same town, on the very same road, within walking distance of each other.

Fat Boy Drive-In

If you're a local in Brunswick, Maine, live anywhere near Brunswick, or even if you're an annual tourist, there's no doubt you've already heard of and eaten at Fat Boy Drive-In on Bath Road in Brunswick.

In fact, just recently, Fat Boy was named to have the best cheeseburger in Maine, with its delicious offering of the Whoperburger. Couple their elite-level burgers with their classic milkshakes, and it's no shock that for locals and tourists alike, Fat Boy is an absolute institution.

Cameron's Lobster House

Just down the road from the iconic Fat Boy Drive-In, though, lies another gem of drive-in restaurant in Brunswick -- Cameron's Lobster House. Less than a mile away and also on Bath Road, Cameron's offers dine-in service, but nothing beats the drive-in carhop service.

And with "lobster" in the name, you know they have lights out seafood options on the menu, including a delicious lobster roll, other seafood favorites like fried clams or fish and chips, and has truly become a must-visit spot for locals and tourists alike, just like its counterpoint down the street, Fat Boy Drive-In.
