So many restaurants in Maine serve delicious food, but many are known for that one item...

The 20 restaurants listed had multiple votes for that 'one' item in our informal poll. But one place I was unaware of is now on my bucket list to try: Helen's Restaurant of Machias. Their one item was pies (although a quick peak of their menu will get you gassing up the car).

This is their pie offerings on a recent menu (subject to change). First they encourage you to "save your fork", because you are gonna want to save room for one of their pies fresh from their bakery:

Yes, please. Obviously for Helen's, the one item they are known for is their pies. Technically not one item, but one category. It still counts.

That one item might be obvious, or it might be something to make sure you get.

When Oprah came to Maine on a recent vacation, she stopped at Dolphin Marina and Restaurant in Harpswell. Not sure what Oprah had (probably a lobster roll), but the one item she missed was their haddock chowder, which is always served with a blueberry muffin. Now that's the one item Oprah should have had, but we'll forgive her and simply invite her back.
