Does Maine Have a ‘No Touch’ Law?
Have you heard about a "no touch" law?
This is hilarious. Where did your mind go first, because I'll tell you one thing, mine didn't go straight to touching a cellphone while operating a vehicle.
Maine has had a hands-free driving law for a while now, but another state recently enacted a "no touch" law, so it got me thinking about it. Let's dive in.
What is the "No Touch" Law?
Mirror.com explains that "no-touch laws stipulate that a driver cannot touch their cellphone at all, for any reason, while operating a vehicle. Crucially, this also includes while stopped at a red light or in traffic or to enter or alter GPS instructions."
When it comes to Maine, the law states that it "prohibit[s] persons with a learner’s permit and licensed drivers under 18, respectively, from operating a motor vehicle 'on a public way while using, manipulating, talking into or otherwise interacting with a handheld electronic device or mobile telephone.'"
Truthfully, I always thought touching, answering, or looking at your phone while driving was illegal no matter, so this doesn't feel like anything new. But apparently it is for other states.

On TikTok University, I was aimlessly doom-scrolling until this one video caught my eye. Kids really only listen to their favorite influencers online anyways, so this felt appropriate to use.
This chicka has no idea her TikTok is about to go even more viral than it already did when she explained that 31 states are already locked into the No Touch Law.
As I'm writing this I'm nodding my head in agreement that the No Touch Law is absolutely needed in Maine.
I actually think this law could benefit tons of drivers all over the country who share the road with the younger generation who can't seem to look up from TikTok for two or more minutes.
Which states in the U.S have the No Touch Law?
As mentioned earlier, there are 31 out of 50 states in the U.S that are already following this law. If you're curious which other states are, too, click here.
Just make sure you aren't using your phone while driving!
