This Maine Library in a Mini Castle Looks Like It Was Plucked from a Harry Potter Movie

The Ogunquit Memorial Library is a hidden treasure locals and visitors love.

The outside visual of the building even gives off Harry Potter vibes like it's just one more location Harry, Ron and Hermione have to stop in at on one of their adventures.

It's a magical mini castle full of history, style, and books.

According to the library's website, the building was built in 1897, opened in 1898 and designed by Charles M. Burns "in the H.H. Richardson Romanesque style." It was later enlarged in 1914.

If you don't know what Richardson Romanesque is (and I didn't), thankfully askthearchitecht.com breaks it down. The website states that this architectural style has medieval influences, and intricate shapes, is usually built with stone, and often has a tower and some arched windows and doors.

So basically, a castle.

And you can see that in the design right away. There's just something about older buildings that really stand out over many newer ones today.

That said, the building has had to have upkeep over the years, according to the library, including new entrance doors and roof. Additionally, the windows and exterior trim were repaired and painted.

And it still looks incredible over 100 years later.

Just note that if/when you do visit, parking is limited. According to the library website, there are six parking spots right out front the building, and the closest town lot is the Cottage Street/Obeds lot.
