Portland’s New Favorite Holiday Tradition is ’12th Night: A Holiday Musical’
For the past 15 years, Fenix Theatre Company has had Portland’s favorite summer family tradition, and they now have your favorite winter tradition.
In the summer, you've seen free Shakespeare in Deering Oaks Park. Now they are also doing a musical production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, perfect for the season.
This is a great event for the whole family, running December 7 through the 17 at Stevens Square Community Center in Portland. It's co-directed by Fenix Artistic Director Peter Brown, who said,
Audience response for the past two years has been phenomenal. The reviews were utter raves. My 7-year-old son saw the production 3 times in a week, transfixed the entire time. We are thrilled to continue sharing this gem of a production with as many families as possible.
Like the Deering Oaks productions, Twelfth Night is also free with a suggested donation of $20 or $40 for a family. The venue at Stevens Square Community Center is very spacious and all are welcome! What a fun, affordable night out this winter.
Shakespeare? Will I be able to follow it? Will my kids?
I know that your eyes roll when you hear about a Shakespearean classic. But the Fenix puts on a family-friendly and easy-to-follow show, focusing instead on exciting physicality and masterful performances as characters navigate mistaken identities, forged letters, swordplay, giant presents, and even a pillow fight. Add music, and you have the perfect night out.
Twelfth Night is running December 7-17 at the Stevens Square Community Center, 631 Stevens Ave in Portland, Maine, 04103. Shows are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 6:30pm, Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm. Reserve your tickets today!
