Power Outage Zaps Refrigerator Section at Hannaford in Scarborough, Maine
The April nor'easter knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of Mainers, including Hannaford in Scarborough, Maine.
I innocently walked into the new Scarborough Hannaford on Payne Road. It's the one that took over the Shaw's which had been there for decades. I like the new store a lot, and it's become my go-to. I was on the hunt for Magic Salmon. It's the only way I make salmon.
Anyway, I mention Magic Salmon because I couldn't find it. That's what led me to go down so many aisles in Hannaford, before discovering that they too had dealt with an overnight power outage that led to getting rid of food!
As I moved on, it was shocking to see the aisles blocked and the shelves bare.
It was crushing to see what this store was dealing with. You could tell that it was unprecedented and upsetting. I was upset with them. All that food was just wasted, and had to be tossed. That storm (another in a line of storms that weren't just inconvenient, but life-altering), even affected a major business like Hannaford Supermarket.
Not even Covid dealt a blow this hard. I know they will recover, but this had to be a tough thing to deal with.
I wanted to shout out an employee at the Scarborough Hannaford who helped me find the elusive Magic Salmon. She knew exactly what I was looking for, but you could tell she was having a hard day. She was so nice and helped me find it with a smile on her face and excellent customer service. I wish I had caught her name, but I was too busy being shocked by what I saw in the store. But there couldn't have been too many people looking for Magic Salmon that day, and I just wanted to say thanks.
