South Portland’s Only T.J. Maxx is Undergoing Major Changes in Maine
Raise your hand if going to T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, or HomeGoods is a part of your mental health routine. I call it my "mental health stroll" when I need a little serotonin boost. The fun is in the idea that you never know what you're going to find in there. You don't go to T.J. Maxx with a purpose, you let T.J. Maxx tell you what your purpose is.
Yesterday, I was on my weekly mental health stroll through the South Portland T.J. when I noticed things felt a bit different around the store, but not in a bad way. Things looked tidier, and there seemed to be more products on the shelf in each section than there ever were before. Then towards the back of the store, I finally noticed a big sign over the fitting rooms that said 'under construction', and something about being back shortly. So yes, this was my lightbulb moment where I realized the store must be renovating for the first time since they opened. GREAT NEWS.
The very first T.J. Maxx opened its' doors in 1977, according to tjx.com. So technically, South Portland's T.J. has been open for around 47 years without any new renovations. As a strong "maxxinista" myself, I can vouch for the fact that they've kept this location pretty clean and tidy considering its age.
Don't worry, their store isn't closing in the meantime. I'd cry. Doors are still very much open. They actually seem to have a brilliant way of re-doing it effectively and efficiently while customers are still shopping around the store comfortably.
It's the same T.J. we love, just an updated layout, and it's AWESOME!
