Super Mario in Londonderry, New Hampshire, Can Be Seen From Space
There are a few man-made objects that can be seen from space. The Great Pyramids of Giza, Dubai's Palm Islands, and Mario. Yes, THAT Mario. The one from the Super Mario Bros. series of video games. And he can be seen from space in the town of Londonderry, New Hampshire.
To be fair, Mario can't be seen from space with the naked eye like the Great Pyramids can. However, that changes with the help of Google Maps satellite imaging.
Chris Brunette of Londonderry is a big video game and pinball fan. He has an entire game room full of pinball machines and a few classic video games, which he has named the "Ice Ice Arcade." Yes. He's a big fan of Vanilla Ice.
Like many of us, he grew up on Nintendo and the best-selling home video game of all time, Super Mario Bros. He's such a fan of Mario, that he decided to rip up his old patio and create a "Martio" (a patio with Mario).
"It was supposed to be pinball-themed, but I ended up going with Mario," Chris told me. "My wife didn't know I was doing it. I started with the bottom and told her it was a Santa Fe design. She finally saw it when I was finishing up his hat. It did not go well. She's since accepted it."
When Chris REALLY got excited was when his Martio showed up on Google Images satellite view.
There it is in the upper right of the image.
The Martio, as seen from space. If you ever decide to expand the Martio, Chris, a Bowser facing him would be amazing! You might want to run it by your wife first, though.
