Pizza in Maine was a pretty hot topic towards the end of 2023. A large part of that attention came from Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who visited Maine and did his very first set of slice reviews. He even fell in love with Monte's Find Foods in Portland during the process.

Some additional attention was paid to a pizza place far away from Portland. The New York Times deemed Tinder Hearth in Brooksville, Maine, as one of the 50 best restaurants in America for 2023. A notable honor, for sure.

While that attention and those accolades would suggest there's plenty of fantastic pizza to find throughout Vacationland, a new list released by 50 Top Pizza disagrees rather decisively.

50 Top Pizza is a well-known guide in Italy to all things pizza. Whether that be the best of the best pizzas you can find in Italy or around the globe. Their top lists each year make headlines and are broken down into sub categories like best pizza slice.

One clear finding from 50 Top Pizza's lists? They don't view Maine as serious about pizza. 50 Top Pizza named a New York pizzeria as the best in the world for 2024. Amongst the top 100, there were several other American pizzerias featured, including some from Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania and several others from New York.

Maine is home to quality pizza. Over the last decade, many pizza purveyors have upped their offerings and continue to try new and innovative creations. At some point, Maine will find itself on one of these prestigious lists.
