Some of the scariest stories ever told come from those who have spent time on the sea. There's something desolate and powerful about the open ocean that can change a person.

The same can be said when constructing many of the ships that patrol that large, vast openness. It's not as simple as many would think.

That is why the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath has decided to open their doors and their storybook to the darker side of maritime life. And it won't be a boring tour through a museum space either. In fact, you'll need to sign a waiver before it begins.

Maine Maritime Museum is calling it the "Dead Reckoning" tour. You'll be taken by flashlight to the museum's historic shipyard space and granted access to areas that are typically restricted to the public.

From there, your tour guide for the evening will detail some of the most gruesome injuries reported as well as some of the most blood-curdling deaths known in the area.

Perhaps the most spooky is hearing a handful of stories that even the experts at the Maine Maritime Museum can't truly explain. You'll hear those stories in complete darkness in the very spot where they were claimed to have happened.

And if you end up feeling some bone-chilling cold inside, no need to worry. You'll get a complimentary hot cider with your ticket purchase.

The Maine Maritime Museum "Dead Reckoning " nighttime tour is happening for three nights in October.

Saturday, October 26

Sunday, October 27

Tuesday., October 29

Full ticket details and availability can be found here.
