Memorial Day Weekend in Maine Forecasted to Be Mostly Sunny and Warm
Old Mainers will tell you horror stories about the first major holiday weekend of the year being filled with cloudy skies, torrential downpours, and nothing but chilly, unpleasant temperatures.
For many years in Maine, that was almost clockwork for Memorial Day weekend. It didn't matter how warm and sunny the entire month of May had been in the Pine Tree State. When that lengthy holiday weekend rolled around, so did the clouds and the cooling.
But in the last few years, Memorial Day weekend has brought Maine, its residents, and visitors a taste of summer. Last year, Memorial Day weekend was an absolute scorcher, with most places seeing mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 70's and low 80's.
It won't quite be the same story in 2024. The Memorial Day weekend forecast looks fantastic for the first half of the the extended weekend, and a little murkier for the back half.
Leading up to Memorial Day weekend, all of Maine should see some serious heat. Wednesday could see some spots in the state his the mid-80's, with Thursday also likely bringing 80-degree heat.
Friday of Memorial Day weekend should be the nicest of all the days during the extended holiday. Inland will be mostly sunny with upper 70's, and the coast will be mostly sunny in the low 70's.
Saturday will be a pleasant spring day in Maine as well. Inland should see mostly sunny skies with low 70's as a high (and some surprising heat in some towns), with the coast also seeing mostly sun but a little cooler. Northern Maine will continue to see some decent heat.
Sunday is expected to be mostly cloudy in central and southern Maine, with temperatures cooling off. Coastal communities will struggle to reach 60 degrees, with a brisk wind making it feel colder.
Monday is likely to be even cooler, with off-and-on showers expected throughout the day. Not quite the string of beach days Vacationland saw last year.
