4 Maine Towns Named Among Most Romantic Getaways in Nation
You probably know all about the cliche things that are deemed romantic. Holding hands on the beach. Exchanging kisses in the rain. A picnic where you feed each other strawberries. The list goes on and on.
But many of those things are considered cliche because for a very long time, they worked. As many couples who have been together for a very long time would attest, romance is important and one of the keys to a long-lasting relationship.
A lifestyle blog called Honeymoon Always wants to help couples keep the flame lit, or perhaps spice things up. They recently put together an exhaustive list of the top romantic destinations across America for those looking to get away for a weekend (or longer) with the love of their life.
Four different towns in Maine made the list, and they really shouldn't come as a surprise. These towns draw a crowd regularly for a variety of reasons, and they can add romance to the list, if they haven't already.
Bar Harbor
Bar Harbor piles tourists into the small town every summer to explore nearby hiking trails, visit beaches, and enjoy everything the oceanfront town has to offer. But it's also one of Maine's top places to get married and honeymoon, with plenty of romantic restaurants, picnic spots, and sunset cruises to be had.
Ogunquit
Another of Maine's busiest tourist destinations in the summer is Ogunquit. But there's plenty of romance to be found in this small town as well. A sunset stroll along Marginal Way, catching an evening performance at the Ogunquit Playhouse, or sitting down for an incredible dinner at Clay Hill Farm in nearby Cape Neddick.
Rockland
While many of Maine's most notable summer hotspots may be overcrowded, Rockland is big enough that things don't feel "too busy". There's plenty of culture to absorb, as Rockland is an underrated destination for art fans with multiple museums to explore, and a sunrise stroll to the incredible Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse is a romance power move.
Kennebunkport
Plenty of romance can be found in Kennebunkport, as the town is filled with scenic spots, easy walks, and beaches perfect for taking in an incredible sunrise or sunset. Earth at Hidden Pond remains one of Maine's most desired restaurants to visit, and Kennebunkport is home to several of the state's most luxurious resorts.
