If you’ve been strolling around Portland, you may have noticed that a popular food truck that now has permanent location as a restaurant.

If you like sushi and haven’t stopped by Mr. Tuna yet, you're missing out. What started as a popular food cart back in 2017, co-owners Jordan Rubin and Marisa Lewiecki decided to take it to the next level and open up their new spot on 83 Middle Street this past May.

The space holds about 25 seats inside, and there’s even some sidewalk seating, which we will likely have to wait until the spring time to enjoy. You’ll likely recognize menu items from the food truck, but it’s expanded with even more options. They also have a full bar now, serving up everything from signature cocktails and sake to beer and wine.

Jay was our server. He was very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and happy to provide recommendations based on our taste buds. As a sushi fan, we had to order several of the menu items. I started with the “Business as Yuzual” cocktail made up of vodka, lime, green tea syrup, sparkling yuzu, lime and shiso. Although I’m not quite sure what a couple of those ingredients are, it didn’t matter, so good.

My favorite was easily the Mr. Tuna Burrito – tuna, avocado, spicy broiled scallop & crab, tobiko, eel sauce, scallions and tempura flakes all stuffed into a seaweed burrito.

We also tried the seaweed salad and a few of their maki rolls as well – all exceptional.

Then, it was time for dessert. We went for the Vanilla + Miso Caramel Ice Cream Toastie. Picture your typical ice-cream sandwich, but way better.

This was some seriously delicious sushi in a nice atmosphere. If you loved Mr. Tuna on the go, or if you're a sushi fan and haven't experienced them at all, you’re definitely going to want to check out the new digs on Middle St.
