Over Half of the Most Popular Chain Restaurants Can Be Found in Maine

Maine may not be the largest state, but it certainly isn't hurting in the creature comfort department. This includes our love affair with fast food and casual chains.

Sure, Maine doesn't have all the options that states with larger cities or Middle America has, but we hold our own.

And now there's proof that Maine isn't lagging far behind, at least when it comes to the chains that matter the most.

The website YouGov decided to take a deep dive into the world of chain restaurants. The site was interested in determining which ones were the most popular nationwide. Now, thanks to Stacker, we can take a visual look at the 50 most popular.

Various data was used to determine the rankings, including breaking down the popularity by generations. It's a very interesting look at how all ages look at these chains.

Unsurprisingly, a whole bunch of the top 50 chains can be found in Maine. This includes the ones found on every block in America (McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks, Dunkin etc...), as well as some of the smaller ones typically only found in malls or airports.

Unofficially, I counted 35 of the 50 that have at least one location in Maine. Honestly, that's more than I initially expected. I think a lot of it has to do with many of the top 50 being the more legendary brands. Newer chains like Shake Shack, Cookout, and Blaze Pizza didn't make the list. It's probably because they are too new, or the footprint is still relatively small.

There are a few on there that I wish Maine still had. It's crazy to think there's not one Outback Steakhouse or TGI Friday's in the entire state. But that's the way the chain restaurant cookie crumbles.
