As the winter thaw begins and the hopes of spring arrive, many of Maine's most popular warm weather destinations are beginning to prepare for the incoming crowds. That includes beach towns, campgrounds and some of Maine's most popular state parks.

One of the most popular Maine state parks is Two Lights in Cape Elizabeth. Visitors can't get enough of the scenic views and iconic lighthouses. But if you're planning a visit between now and the month of May, you'll want to cancel those plans immediately.

Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Temporarily Closed

According to Maine.gov, Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth will be closed for the next several weeks as the park undergoes a series of improvements in anticipation of its busiest season.

Those improvements will include a road widening, which will be welcomed news for frequent visitors. Additional improvements include underground utility upgrades, which are necessary due to the amount of visitors to the state park. There will also be a new park entrance station as part of the project.

Nearby State Parks Will Remain Open During Construction

While Two Lights will be closed to the public in the short term, other nearby public lands will remain open for those that enjoy brisk wind and a chilly visit to the coastline.

Crescent Beach State Park remains open to the public as does Fort Williams Park. The Maine Department of Agriculture hopes to have the Two Lights State Park project completed by late-April or early-May to once again allow for safe visitor entry.
