5 Fun Things to Do for Mom in Boston, Massachusetts, on Mother’s Day

It's that time of year again when we ask ourselves, "What the heck would Mom like for Mother's Day?"  I like to say that all it takes is a handwritten letter with all kinds of x's and o's written over it.  Glitter would also be encouraged.  However, if you are looking for something that would be a memorable experience rather than having something sit in her dresser drawer until the end of time, you might want to maybe make the day extra special and check out these really fun things to do in Boston.

Boston's Duckling Day Parade

If you have little ones that are five and under and you are the spouse (or partner) trying to figure out how to make this special for Mom for your young children, the Duckling Day Parade might be perfect for you.  The parade starts at Boston Common, where there are statues of Mr. and Mrs. Mallard and their ducklings.  You need to pay a small fee and register beforehand.  The Parade starts at 10am on Mother's Day.

The Museum of Science in Boston

There is no shortage of things to do at the Museum of Science for the whole family.  You will find it's fun for all ages.  If Mom is into Science, that's a bonus, but even if she's not, there is a dinosaur exhibit, a live animal exhibit, you can go to the Moon, learn how to make a sustainable farm, and so much more, according to their website.  The Museum can be as pricey and as inexpensive as you want it to be.  You can choose the exhibits a la carte or choose to see them all.  It's up to you.

New England Aquarium

As we go along this list, I feel like it's just getting better and better.  The New England aquarium is a star on the map of the Northeast.  You and your family will love this place.  They have all manner of sea creatures. From seals to octopus, turtles, and penguins, the list is endless.  A general admission ticket for the aquarium is $39 bucks, but like the Museum of Science, you can add on exhibits as you like.

Boston Ballet

How about taking Mom to the ballet?  How fancy!  The Spring Experience is happening at the Citizen's Bank Opera House.  Tickets are not inexpensive though.  They will run you between about $200 to over $300 per ticket.

Shopping on Newbury Street in Boston

Shopping on Newbury Street in Boston is not as fancy as it used to be.  To be clear, it's still ridiculously priced, but you don't have to dress up to shop there like you used to.  I was too young and too broke to go shopping in the Back Bay back in the day, but I remember watching all those fancy women crossing the street with their big bags.  It's just not like that anymore.  You can have a day of window shopping and stop for a snack somewhere wearing your everyday clothes.
