Beloved Portsmouth, New Hampshire Restaurant is Closing for Good, But There’s Still Time
Oh man... Homemade meals, always from scratch and delicious comfort food. This one will be missed.
According to The (un)Official City of Portsmouth, NH's Facebook page, Bob's Broiled Chicken at 801 Islington Street is closing forever.
Customers were first told of the closing in an email.
The good news, if any, like Harvey's Bakery in Dover, NH, Bob's is giving us some notice of the closing.
Bob's Broiled Chicken will be open until July 26, 2025 to get our favorite chicken tenders, chicken vegetable soup, pot pie, I could go on and on. Comfort food all the way.
From the comments on the Facebook page, Uncle Bob wants to take a well deserved rest and retire after 34 amazing years serving us the best food.
So Many Customers are Heartbroken
The Facebook post is a testament of how well loved this place is. Here are a few of the comments:
No No No- I loooooove it there! It’s iconic Portsmouth! So many great affordable meals- many lunch meetings… so sad! Say it’s not true!
They have been so generous to Corpus Christi Parish and Saint Patrick Academy. Will always remember what great people they are too.
One commenter, Scott, also said that it's hard to find a restaurant that serves comfort food in a "new-aged, up and coming foodie town." True statement.
Sandi had a heartwarming memory of Bob's:
Just a few weeks ago my daughter was in the hospital with GI issues and needed some broth. I called Bob’s and they strained some of their delicious chicken soup to make broth for her. When I picked it up, they said it was on the house and they hoped she got feeling better.
There was speculation that the rent became too high in Portsmouth for Bob, however, that isn't the case. He is just calling it quits and finally getting some R&R.
Uncle Bob and his staff deserve some time off, so we wish them nothing but the best. Like Harvey's Bakery in Dover, this one is a tough one to say goodbye to.
