Vacations are imperative, and if there's one thing that's annoying, it's crowded vacation destinations with overpriced food and drinks.

I know you can relate, because it's happened to all of us.  You finally take a well-deserved getaway, and it's not all you hoped because of the irritating people, and the price of, well, just about everything.

New Hampshire vacation gem: Sugar Hill

In New Hampshire, if you are looking for a quiet long weekend or vacation, there's a lovely town called Sugar Hill in the White Mountains.  It boast gorgeous views of the White Mountain National Park, and has plenty of small-town charm.

TripAdvisor.com says the Sugar Hill Inn, Polly's Pancake Parlor, and the Inn at Sunset Hill are all great places to dine, and there are cozy inns to spend the night too.  With skiing and gastropubs nearby, there's no lack of relaxation in the area.

There's golf, the historical museum, and a country store to kibitz around.

Massachusetts vacation gem: Stockbridge

In Massachusetts, Stockbridge is in the Berkshire Mountains, and is an ideal town with so much art, food, and music.  You can relax, as everything is laid-back, but still get culture.

The most famous attraction in Stockbridge is the Norman Rockwell Museum, where you can relive your childhood with the world's largest collection of painting and drawings by the iconic artist.

There's also the charming Red Lion Inn. Established in 1773 as a small tavern, the inn has grown to be a world-class resort with top-notch dining.  There's also the world-famous National Shrine of Divine Mercy, a catholic shrine in a peaceful setting.
