If you were lucky enough to see the Auroras in the sky in Alton this past weekend, you were treated with Mother Nature's beautiful light display in our own backyard.

In this video by Rob Wright, you can see the progression of time sped up to show the change of colors in the sky.  It's just breathtaking.

When I was growing up in New Hampshire, I don't remember seeing the Northern lights ever, however, about a year ago, they were brilliantly visible in New Hampshire then too. According to this story from NBC10 in Boston, the color green is the most common when you see the aurora borealis, followed by pink and the least common is blue/purple.

There is a scientific reason why the colors show up in our skies. It has to do with the sun's particles hitting our atmosphere and to be honest, some of the reasons why bring me back to 8th grade science class, which was a traumatic time in my life, so I'd rather not try to dig deep in my memory about that.  I'd rather just enjoy the beauty that is the Aurora Borealis.

If you look for them, there are times in life when you forget who said something that may have offended you or your job isn't something that fulfils you anymore or your spouse is leaving their underwear on the kitchen floor.  See the Northern Lights should be one of those times.  It's a rare occurrence that is wonderful to see.
