Opening for its 101st Year, This New Hampshire Ski Resort is the 2nd Oldest in America

Ski season is upon us New Englanders and the excitement is real.

Skiing and snowboarding are certainly not for everyone. What I have found, perhaps just my anecdotal data, the people who love (or at least tolerate) winters in New England all have one thing in common - they ski or snowboard.

Without a winter activity to look forward to, seasonal depression hits hard in New England.

Well, while planning my upcoming ski weekends, I learned about a mountain in New Hampshire I had never heard of: Storrs Hill Ski Area in Lebanon, NH.

I thought I had skied, or at least heard of, all of the mountains in New Hampshire...guess not...because I missed a big one.

Storrs Hill Ski Area opened in 1923, making it the second oldest ski area in the United States, according to a Snow Brains article.

Perhaps even cooler, according to the Storrs Hill Ski Area website, the first ski lift was installed in 1935 making it possibly the oldest continuously operating lift in the country.

Storrs Hill seems like a small town, family-friendly ski hill.

Sure, it's not as big as Bretton Woods or Attitash, but that is part of what makes it so special.

Storr Hill offers inexpensive lift tickets, a $300 family season pass, a $100 junior season pass, and more offerings to local NH families. It is a perfect, smaller, mountain to get out for a few runs if you live near Lebanon, NH.

Plus they offer fun, unique events that could only take place at a small, family-friendly mountain...like this cardboard sled derby:
