This Could Be the Worst Part About Summer in New Hampshire
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love living in New Hampshire. ESPECIALLY in the summer. We are so lucky to live a quick drive from the ocean, lake, or mountains. How lucky are we? But someone recently popped off in the New Hampshire subreddit, and it really spoke to my soul.
Now keep in mind, this Redditor used some pretty harsh wording to get their point across. I would not express my feelings in this way, but I do agree with the point they are trying to make. They said:
"One thing I appreciate most about winter (and adverse weather in general) is how it forces the bootlickers on Harleys with loud exhaust into hiding. I can finally hear the grouse out back drumming on his log now that he isn’t drowned out by the cacophony of motorcycle exhaust. "
The comment went on, but you get the gist.
It made the people of Reddit feel some type of way, as it received 600 upvotes and over 300 comments.
Now, before you come for this writer for being a motorcycle hater, I acknowledge that not every person riding down Ocean Boulevard in Hampton on their motorcycle exhibits this behavior. My own father had a motorcycle growing up, and I thought it was the coolest thing!
However, there is a certain breed of human that is drawn to New Hampshire from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend. They want to the world to hear how loud their motorcycle can get. I can't tell you how many times I have been talking to a friend over lunch at Bernie's Beach Bar or catching a snooze on Hampton Beach, before being rudely interrupted by a symphony exhaust.
This leads me to my next question. Why do SOME motorcyclists feel the need to modify their bikes to make them louder? The people of Reddit had a few theories:
1. It's the "look at me, look at me" aspect. Check out my duel exhaust, bro!
2. They do it because they know it annoys people. Have you ever seen someone with a "Too loud? Too bad" bumper sticker? That says it all.
3. They do it because they can.
Are you a biker? How do you feel about this?
