Four Maine State Police Troopers Struck by Driver During Call

Four Maine State Police troopers were run down by a driver while responding to a family disturbance on Route 202 in Holls Sunday night.

The troopers, including a trainee, were conducting interviews in the breakdown lane of Route 202 and Star Lane around 10 p.m., according to York County Sheriff William King.

Approximately an hour later, an eastbound 2017 Subaru WRX driven by Tyler Croston, 24, of Westbrook drove into the breakdown lane and hit all four troopers. They were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening, according to King. One of the troopers was in critical condition.

Croston was taken to same facility for treatment of minor injuries. He was charged with aggravated OUI, aggravated DTE (Driving to Endanger), and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

Croston also had two sets of bail conditions and has been charged with violating those conditions of release (VCR). Due to his VCR charges, he cannot be released prior to his first hearing Wednesday.

King said it was not known why the man drove into the breakdown lane.
