Found Dog

Saturday evening a black dog was found lying in a young man's yard. The poor dog was obviously hurt and it is suspected that the dog was hit by a vehicle and left there. Thankfully he was found and Houlton Humane Society lept into action.

Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic

The poor pup had to then be taken to Brewer as the Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic was the only place open Saturday evening.

It was discovered that the dog had suffered multiple fractures, was dehydrated and emaciated. He was given fluids as well as antibiotics and he left the clinic in two splints (both on his right side) and some pain meds.

Road to Recovery

The sweet black dog was given the name Shep. He is in a foster home as he spends the next few weeks recovering from his broken bones and getting to a healthy weight.

"He has been the BEST patient!! I enjoyed being his case technician tonight SO much. I hope who ever adopts this handsome boy realizes how truly amazing he is. Feel better soon, Shep!"

As any pet owner knows emergency vet bills can be astronomical. And many will tell you the cost is absolutely worth saving the life of a dear furry family member. The Houlton Humane Society is a nonprofit and they knew they had to do what they could. They ended up reaching out to their Facebook followers to help. In less than 24 hours the fundraiser met and then exceeded the $2,000 goal.

After Shep heals he will be ready to find his forever home. Andie Babcock, his technician at the emergency clinic said on Facebook of Shep, "He has been the BEST patient!! I enjoyed being his case technician tonight SO much. I hope who ever adopts this handsome boy realizes how truly amazing he is. Feel better soon, Shep!"

Best of luck, Shep! And a very speedy recovery!
