Have you ever seen someone stopped along the side of the road helping themselves to a handful of fresh blueberries or strawberries or corn or anything from a working farm?

The Maine Forest Rangers see it almost daily and they have taken to their Facebook page to remind people that it's not only stealing, but a trespassing charge can be added to the crime.

The roadside thieves could face a fine of up to $1000 and even jail time of 6 months, according to a website on Maine laws. Not worth a handful of fresh fruit.

A loss in crops means less profit for the hard working farmers in Maine and a possible increase in produce price to the consumer. Some farmers don't mind if you get their permission before helping yourself to their hard work. But the best thing to do is support them by buying the produce at fruit stands, farm stands or even the supermarket.
