Highspeedinternet.com did an annual study about internet dating and determined that Maine is the safest state for finding love (or at least hook-ups) online.

If you're a Mainer cruising Tinder, Grindr, Match, Plenty of Fish, Zoosk, Her, Bumble or any of the other seemingly endless choices for internet dating, then you are in the right state for for dating a stranger.

The study that showed Maine to be the safest state for online dating was based on STD rates and the likelyhood of being scammed.

Mainers practicing safe sex have kept our STD rates low and we have the lowest rate of cybercrime associated with online dating too. We beat out Vermont this year for number one, as they had held that spot for two years in a row.

I am so proud of us.

At the bottom of the list was Alaska, for the third year in a row. Alaska has fewer than one million people, but they still have the highest rates of STD infection and they lost a total of $3.6 to cybercrimes that occurred through online dating. Jeesh, Alaska.

Romance scams take advantage of the emotionally vulnerable and sexually desperate. If your internet interest starts asking you for money for any reason, ghost them immediately.
