For the third year in a row, Mainers can legally purchase fireworks to celebrate the Fourth of July, but they should check to see if their city or town allows them before they launch their rockets red glare, according to WMTW.The Portland television news station reported Monday that while retailers expect to see strong fireworks sales, people under 21 cannot purchase or possess them. WMTW also reported that certain types of fireworks such as missiles, helicopters, sky rockets and bottle rockets are still illegal.

The Maine State Fire Marshal's web site includes a list of Maine communities that have ordinances that prohibit fireworks.
