We’re pretty darn lucky to call a place as beautiful and incredible as Maine home.

Few states make it so easy to step outside and find yourself just minutes away from breathtaking scenery. From the rugged coastline and pristine lakes to wonderous mountains and seemingly endless forests, natural beauty is simply part of everyday life here in Maine.

And we’re certainly not the only ones who have noticed.

The folks at the iconic Travel + Leisure put together an article that celebrates America’s most naturally beautiful states, highlighting just 15 from across the country. And, of course, Maine earned a well-deserved spot on the list.

What Makes Maine One of America's Most Beautiful States?

Here's what Travel + Leisure had to say about Maine making this elite list of beautiful states.

If you love dramatic fogs along rocky and forest-covered coastlines followed by sunshine that reflects technicolor against the ever-present water, then you might find the natural beauty of Maine breathtaking, too...Whether you venture up to Maine for fresh lobster rolls and pleasant beach weather in the summer, or wait until the fall, when the foliage starts to change, you’re guaranteed to see some of the most wondrous sights.

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

That brief write-up perfectly encapsulates what makes Maine so unique. The state’s diverse landscape provides a welcoming environment for all to enjoy. Grasslands, forests, wetlands, foothills, rocky mountains, and coastlines all offer both Mainers and visitors ample opportunities to experience some of the greatest scenery this country has to offer.

Even with development seemingly out of control in some communities, much of the state remains wonderfully remote.

Mainers are also fortunate to have countless places where they can experience this beauty firsthand. Whether it’s one of the parks, beaches, hiking trails, or bodies of water, there’s always a chance to witness Maine’s exceptional natural environment.
