Maine Officials Warn Drivers To Obey “Move Over” Law

The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety has issued a press release regarding the lack of drivers on Maine roads that are not obeying the "move over" law according to a report by WCSH-TV.

The move over law is pretty basic, as a driver you are required to slow down and move over when approaching an emergency vehicle that has its emergency lights activated. That is the case for Police, Fire, and EMS.

Shannon Moss, spokesperson for The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety said:

“Traffic-related incidents continue to be one of the leading causes of death among on-duty law enforcement officers. If your son, daughter, or family member was an emergency responder you would want drivers to move over or slow down and give them the space to work safely.”

Recently there has been several reports from emergency responders citing that vehicles are failing to both move over and slow down which puts lives at risk.

This law is in place for the safety of all, it also carries a minimum of a $250 fine.
