Gearing up for Summer in Old Orchard Beach, Maine: Pier Fries & Bill’s Pizza Announce Opening Date
There’s nothing like enjoying the beach on a warm summer day here in Maine, especially when you include some perfectly cooked, crispy, golden pier fries in the mix.
How can you not love that perfect duo of beachgoing and crinkle-cut perfection with a side of vinegar?
So, where do you find this ideal pairing? That would be Old Orchard Beach, of course—the town where you can also find aggressively dressed tourists, classic arcades and amusement rides, and creative T-shirt shops. It’s our very own Jersey Shore, minus the Jersey part… thankfully.
It’s also home to one of Maine’s most iconic spots: Pier French Fries, a place that’s been putting smiles on sunburnt faces for generations. And those studly spuds are about to be back for the 2026 season.
When Does Pier French Fries Open for the Summer?
Pier French Fries announced on social media that, along with its sister restaurant—another legend, Bill’s Pizza—it will open for the year on May 1. Exciting (and delicious) times are right around the corner, folks. I can already smell that pizza and those fries.
Both Pier French Fries and Bill’s Pizza have been serving up incredible food for generations. Pier Fries has been open since 1932, while Bill’s Pizza got its start in 1949. The two shops are among the most iconic spots not just in Old Orchard Beach, but in the entire state.
Honestly, if you asked me what comes to mind most about Maine summers, Pier Fries would be very high on the list. Not a year goes by that I’m not devouring numerous pints of those delicious Maine spuds, typically with a slice from Bill’s to go along with them. And they just hit different when the Maine weather is at its best.
What's the Schedule for Pier French Fries and Bill's Pizza?
According to the social media post, both Pier French Fries and Bill’s will initially be open Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Hours will be extended as the weather improves.

If you want to avoid the long lines, I highly suggest heading there early in the season to grab your slice, some delicious crinkle-cut fries, and maybe even some poutine. I know I’ll be stopping in frequently to get my French fry fix.
