According to a post on the department's Facebook page, the York Maine Police Department recently received payment for a 42 year old parking ticket.

The ticket, made out to someone now lives in Massachusetts, was made out on July 22nd of 1978.  In a letter the sender enclosed with the payment, they said they found the old ticket in a drawer in their home and figured "better late than never".  He or she enclosed $3 for the fine and a $1 late fee.

Police say they contacted the sender and thanked them.  They also told the person they would not be cashing the check.

I'm sure that the York PD appreciates the person's honesty.  Hopefully, when the pandemic is all over, the person will come up for a visit.
