WalletHub Just Named Maine One of America’s Best States for Jobs
Maine and New England tend to rank high on many lists.
Whether it’s quality of life, great food, amazing outdoor recreation, or ridiculous accents, there’s certainly a lot to appreciate about the region.
This includes the fact that all of New England always seems to end up near the top of one popular reference site’s list of the best states for jobs.
New England Dominates Latest Report on Best States for Jobs
WalletHub, a personal finance website, recently published its annual report of the best and worst states for jobs.
Maine came in with an impressive 9th-place ranking, a very strong showing. Even more incredible is that the entire region found itself in the top 10.

Maine’s overall jobs score was 58.89. The scoring is based on a 100-point system divided into two major categories: Job Market and Economic Environment. These categories were further broken down into 34 subcategories to make the analysis as detailed as possible.
Maine’s economic environment ranking was 31st, likely brought down by subcategories such as commute-friendly jobs and average starting salaries — areas that aren’t necessarily the state’s strongest.
However, Maine bounced back with an incredible 2nd-place ranking in its actual job market, which includes factors like job opportunities, unemployment rate, and job security. It’s great to see our state thrive in this category — a testament to both employers and employees. The job force is strong, my friends. We should all be proud.
What is the Best State in New England for Jobs?
As mentioned above, Maine was joined in the top 10 by the rest of New England. Here’s how the region stacked up:
1. Massachusetts
2. Connecticut
4. Vermont
5. New Hampshire
10. Rhode Island
That’s what I like to call utter domination. No other region even comes close to this level of representation. There’s nothing like New England.
Meanwhile, the worst place for jobs went to West Virginia. Sadly, the Mountain State tends to find itself near the bottom of many of these reports. At least there’s decent college football there… well, in theory.
