It’s been a long time since we got smacked around with the white stuff like we just did. That was one heck of a banger.

There is nothing like living in Maine during a snowstorm. Watching the snow fall might be one of the most tranquil things there is in this life—especially in such a beautiful state.

The majority of Maine got absolutely battered by this storm (no, I will not share the name of the storm—naming storms is dumb), with tons of communities receiving double-digit snow totals.

What Maine Towns Saw the Most Snowfall During This First Storm?

Let’s take a look at some of the snowfall totals from around Maine, courtesy of our friends at the National Weather Service.

Cutler - 21.0"

Congrats to the downeast town of Cutler, who won the snowstorm with an absolute monster total. This is like Buffalo-levels of snow, nearly getting hammered by two feet.

Here's the rest of the Top-5

Orono - 20.0"
Kittery - 20.0"
Old Town - 19.0"
Brewer, Glenburn, Veazie, Orland - 18.0"

Here’s how some of the cities fared in this past storm:

Portland – 13.5"
Lewiston – 11.0"
Bangor – 15.0"
Augusta – 9.0"
Saco – 12.0"

These are some serious totals for Maine, especially in the south. It’s a good reminder that we still do live in the North, even if we haven’t had too many of these events over the last few years.

It’s also a blessing for the winter recreation industry. Talk about exactly what the ski mountains, Nordic centers, and snowmobile trails needed. And cold temps over the next week or so certainly make one believe this snowpack isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

When Does the Next Storm Hit Maine?

Well, look at that—more snow is potentially in our future. And by future, I mean in like five days. Weather services are tracking a potential Nor’easter for this Sunday that could drop a few more inches of snow and a boatload of wind.

Details are still developing, but fair warning to all: this past storm will certainly not be the last. We finally got a snowy one again, and it feels great. Well, unless you hate snow—then too bad for you.
