It's the perfect home for those who enjoy the serenity and awesomeness of a classic Northeastern landscape. It's a true vacationland, which makes the “Vacationland” nickname especially fitting.

Maine is One of America's Most Beautiful and Natural States

One of the most unique aspects of Maine's natural beauty is the wildlife that thrives here. How fortunate we are to share this incredible land with a plethora of furry friends of all shapes, sizes, and personalities. And now, that wildlife is being recognized in a major way.

The popular site AnimalKO published an article all about America's remarkable wildlife. The site highlighted the 10 states with the most fascinating animal families, which (unsurprisingly) included Maine.

In fact, the Pine Tree State ranked seventh for wildlife — an impressive position for Maine, a state that prides itself on its wondrous environment and diverse species.

Puffins with colorful beaks nest on remote islands while humpbacks breach offshore. Maine’s rugged coastline creates perfect habitat for diverse marine creatures and seabirds. Inland, moose splash through boggy wetlands and black bears forage for berries. That brief write-up perfectly encapsulates what makes Maine so unique. The state's diverse landscape provides a welcoming environment for a wide variety of species. Grasslands, forests, wetlands, foothills, rocky mountains, and coastlines all offer habitats suited to the needs of animals and long-term sustainability.

Even with development seemingly out of control in some communities, much of the state remains wonderfully remote.

Mainers are also fortunate to have numerous places where they can experience this wildlife firsthand. Whether it's in parks, on beaches, along hiking trails, or near bodies of water, visitors have a great chance of witnessing Maine's exceptional animals.

What is the Best State in America for Wildlife?

The number one spot on the list went to Alaska, which was undoubtedly the clear favorite. That state reportedly has more bears than people. I’m not sure if that’s true, but it certainly sounds impressive.
