Maine Drivers Pick Their Favorite Gas Station—and It’s Cumby’s

We Americans love our gas.

I mean, it's pretty important. It keeps our cars on the road, our boats on the water, and our summer adventures rolling. Plus, today's gas stations are packed with snacks, drinks, adult libations, and all kinds of convenience items, making them more useful than ever.

So, have you ever stopped to wonder which gas station chain is the most popular in Maine?

Now, thanks to the popular Data Pandas, we can finally say what Maine's top gas dog is. Data Pandas used consumer preference data from 2024 to determine the most popular gas chain in every state. So, what was Maine's top choice?

What is Maine's Favorite Gas Station?

I bet you have a guess which one it is. Let's just say it might be a brand with a nickname that we Mainers love to use. Plus, it's probably best known for its convenience and inexpensive coffee more than its actual gas pumps. Yes, I'm talking about Cumberland Farms.

One of New England's most popular chains, Cumberland Farms (or Cumby’s) perfectly defines the term convenience. The store is a one-stop shop for any Mainer in a bind for gas, a drink, or a quick bite. The stores are known for being very budget-friendly, offering inexpensive coffee and food items. There’s even a way to save on gas with its rewards program.

These are all reasons why Cumby’s takes the title of Maine’s most popular gas station. It also helps that the state is loaded with them. According to the data company ScrapeHero, there are 43 Cumby’s locations in Maine, making it one of the most prevalent gas station brands in the state. Come to think of it, I pass four on my 25-minute commute to work. And yes, I typically stop at one of them two or three times a week. It’s a trusted convenience.

Cumby's was the most popular gas station chain in just two states: Maine and Connecticut. However, no data was available for New Hampshire or Vermont, so I wouldn't be surprised if Cumby's would have topped the list there as well.

The nation's most popular gas station chain was Chevron, which claimed the top spot in 10 states.
