Mainers Love to Garden, What Will You Plant This Year?

This year my family is considering planting a garden for the first time. We know nothing about gardening but we have been inspired after eating tomatoes off the vine from other people's gardens every summer and fall. We want in! What will you be planting?

The first place that I turned to for information about a Maine garden is the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, what a gem of information! Check out their website, it is a great resource. My first question was, "what can I grow"? It turns out that we can grow a lot more in this climate than just potatoes and carrots. We are now considering a few peach and plum trees along with a strawberry patch and some rhubarb as well.

What will you be planting in your garden this year? Any tips for a first timer?
