Maine’s New Totally Awesome Vegan Food Truck Is Wicked Rad

About a month ago, I was crossing Spring Street in Portland headed to One City Center to report for rock duty here at the Blimp. As I looked both ways at the crosswalk, I noticed a colorful purple rig airbrushed graffiti style. I decided to to take a closer look and saw that the cool lettering on the side said, Totally Awesome Vegan Food Truck. And the angels sang!

This got me jacked pretty quickly since my family and I recently made the the transition to a plant-based diet. Even though we don't eat meat, eggs and dairy anymore, we still wanna eat traditional type meals that we're used to enjoying. You know, burgers, chili-dogs, and whatnot.

That's what Chef Tony and his wife Colleen specialize in..."junk food" made with plant-based ingredients. My first lunch from the  was the vegan tuna melt with some tater tots. It was amazing! I was like there's no way this isn't made with real tuna and real mayonnaise. I can't wait to see it come back on the lunch menu.

And check out the tots with maple chipotle aioli. Friggin' delish, bub!

The next time I stopped by for lunch, I had the Korean BBQ Dawg. It was also amazing. The vegan dot dog was grilled to perfection and loaded with wicked killer toppings of Korean BBQ baked beans and spicy Asian slaw. it was served on a grilled sub roll also grilled to perfection.

Seriously if you are leaning more plant-based like many are these days and you want to enjoy tasty "junk food" for lunch like your co-workers, you should find out for yourself why I track down the Totally Awesome Vegan Food Truck every week now. Let's face it. Salads and tofu get kinda boring after awhile. Plus, Collen and Tony are wicked nice! Let's still eat fun food while make healthier diet choices, right?

I'm not 100% sure that there are other all-vegan trucks around Greater Portland. However, The Falafel Mafia food truck has some vegan options and can be found parked on Spring Street in Portland too.

According to their Facebook page, they'll serving up crazy good plant-based grub from noon-2:30p and the back for suppah from 4:30p-6:30p over by Tony's Donuts on the corner of Bolton and Congress Streets in Portland. I think i'll go and try the reuben today. And don't worry about the rain. the truck will be parked under a tent.
