Portland Sea Dogs

We're less than a week into the Portland Sea Dogs 2023 season and history has already been made at Hadlock Field.

No, it has nothing to do with the fact that the Sea Dogs -- the AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox -- are out to a 3-0 start and tied for first in the Eastern League Northeast Division with their biggest rivals, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (who they ironically start a series with tonight.)

It has nothing to do with the fact that they've hit the ever-loving crap out of the ball for the first three games of the season, totaling 22 runs scored so far in their season-opening series sweep of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

No, history was written as soon as the season started for the Sea Dogs last Thursday at Hadlock Field.

Baseball All Female Broadcast Booth

For just the second time in professional baseball history, this season for the Sea Dogs will feature an all-female broadcast booth, as the Sea Dogs announced prior to Opening Day last week that Emma Tiedemann and Rylee Pay will provide play-by-play and color commentary for every single Sea Dogs pitch and at-bat.

As mentioned above, this is the second time in history a professional team will have an all-female broadcast booth. Believe it or not, the Boston Red Sox have their fingerprints in the first-ever all-female broadcast booth, too.

Salem Red Sox

Back in April 2019, the Single-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, the Salem Red Sox, shattered the baseball commentating glass ceiling when, for the first time ever, they spearhead an all-female broadcast booth.

The unprecedented event was such a massive deal that Sports Illustrated even provided coverage of it, highlighting that Suzie Cool and Melanie Newman would call not only the Salem Red Sox opening day game against the Wilmington Blue Rocks, but would remain the broadcast team for the entire season.

Just the Red Sox minor league affiliate teams out here breaking the mold and shattering ceilings with powerful, talented women.
