A new chair lift is coming to Sunday River for the 2023-2024 season which is being called "one of the most advanced and fastest 6-person chairlifts in North America."

In December of 2022, Sunday River opened its newest chair lift, the Jordan 8, which has the crown as America's fastest 8-person chairlift. But they aren't stopping there.

The planned Baker 6 sounds like the Cadillac of chair lifts. Able to transport 6 skiers per lift to the summit of Barker Mountain in just 4 minutes and 30 seconds, its speed matches the Jordan 8 but also matches it with an impressive set of features. This kind of sounds like looking at the window sticker on a car doesn't it?

Like its 8-person counterpart, the Barker 6 has ergonomic heated seats, which you might be used to in your car. The locking restraining bar lowers automatically to secure you safely. Then a weather-blocking bubble comes down like a windscreen to keep everyone nice and cozy inside as they take the ride up to the summit.

All of these recent improvements are part of Sunday River's plan for their vision of the future which they appropriately call "Sunday River 2030." It may sound like a science fiction movie, but this is happening now.

On the way to 2030, just some of the plans are to upgrade snow-making capabilities, improve the base lodge, install new state-of-the-art chairlifts, and build a multi-story tower on North Peak open year-round to get some of the greatest views in New England.

When it's all done, it's going to be a brand new Sunday River.
