55 years ago, a US Air Force B-52 bomber crashed on Elephant Mountain near the Greenville area of Moosehead Lake on a training mission. There's a memorial stone at the site for the 7 who lost their lives that day. The pilot and navigator survived.

If you decide to go on summer weekend adventure to see this, you'll be humbled by the site of this historic Maine tragedy. The wicked good folks at Yesah Digital shot some terrific footage of this sacred hidden location so we can get quick tour in the meantime.

They also do a great job of giving some more background on the crash.  Amazingly, the wreckage appears to remain untouched since 1963.
