My Boyfriend and I Got in an Argument Over This Beloved Maine Go-To
Well, I decided to finally try one of Maine's most beloved beverages. Yes, I am talking about Moxie. According to Moxie, Moxie is the oldest continually produced soft drink in the U.S. and it was created back in 1876.
Now, I have heard from listeners that "You love Moxie, even if you don't like Moxie." With the motto of "Distinctively Different," it seems that Moxie is an acquired taste, and people that drink it either love it or hate it. Well, I found out firsthand that is one hundred percent correct that you either love Moxie or hate it.
After searching my local Hannaford and only finding cans, I rushed over to Amato's and was finally able to find a bottle to try. Of course, I had to take a sniff and smell what it is that I was going to be drinking (I'm strange I know) and my first thought was it smells kind of like Coca-Cola however the taste was completely different.
Luckily I did try Moxie cold and honestly, it was love at first sip. I immediately screamed at my boyfriend that it tastes just like root beer before I forced him to try a sip. Well, let's just say he was not a fan.
I don't think I ever saw someone try to spit out soda so fast and tell me that was the grossest thing that they've ever tasted. Meanwhile, I just sat back, finished the bottle, and kept yelling at him that he was wrong.
Of course, this led to both of us yelling in our apartment over whether Moxie is delicious or not. I was only able to come up with one negative thing to say about Moxie, well, I guess I didn't say it as much as I burped it.
Maybe it's because I don't drink a lot of soda, but Moxie had me burping after every sip. I honestly have no idea how someone was able to chug almost the entire bottle without burping (I guess some people are just more talented than me).
