A school bus full of children witnessed the horrific event last month.

According to NECN, earlier this month, "Hiccup" the kitten was thrown from a car window in Winterport, Maine. The Bangor Daily News reported that children on the school bus screamed, and their screams alerted the driver, who then stopped. The school bus driver picked up the injured 9-week-old kitten and took him to the Rachel and Shannan Grooming Salon. Officials determined the kitten had been severely neglected, as he was covered in fleas. It was also reported by the Bangor Daily News that the kitten suffered a broken leg when he was thrown from the car. He has been seen by an orthopedic surgeon Hiccup, and might have to have his leg amputated.

While the suspect, or suspects have not been caught, and a detailed description of the car isn't available, those with information are asked to contact the Winterport Sheriff’s Department at 1-800-660-3398.
